As a family, we travelled through Vietnam for six weeks.

A place that will entice you to sit in the sunshine, sip iced coffee and devour a warm banh mi baguette crammed with pate, meats and salad, it really is one of the worlds most unique travel destinations.

You are in Vietnam, and after a few days of busy sightseeing in Hanoi, you wish to visit the remote mountain town of Mai Chau.
Getting from Hanoi to Mai Chau is easy. Follow our lead and ignore anyone who tells you otherwise.

If you take the bus from Hanoi you will be dropped off on the main road. No problem, the home-stays are are beautiful ten-minute walk.
We took our two kids to Mai Chau. We stayed in a stilt house and had a ball.
But. There were a few things I wish someone writing a Vietnam travel blog had told me about, especially about what to expect when you get the local bus!
