If I were asked to describe what typical New Zealand people are like, the last word that would come to mind would be ‘rugged’. Yet, apparently, according to the people on the washing line, this is a label that goes hand in hand with the folks down under.

Typical New Zealand People. Just WHAT Are They Up To Down There?

I can just picture it.

A bearded bushman with a wild pig slung over his shoulder. Returning home to his wife (who is making scones with one hand and shearing sheep with the other). ‘Throw that on the Barbie love and while it’s cooking I’ll neck a few tinnies with the boys…’

Man with fierce face. Typical New Zealand People

Did I ever mention to you that, twelve years ago, I got cold feet about moving to New Zealand? It’s true. I had visions of turning up to the country and finding men who spent hours drinking and polishing their fishing rods and women who wore blue overalls.

Luckily I put my big girl pants on and went ahead with our plans. And while some things (like learning the New Zealand slang) took some getting used to, I am happy to say that I am yet to meet any troglodytes.

In this week’s podcast episode Brian and I talk about:

  1. The Typical Kiwi Male.
  2. Kiwi Ingenuity and whether it still exists.
  3. Rugby, racing and beer.
  4. The Typical Kiwi Female.
